Pocono Peach Pile

Did you know that the Pocono Mountains are home to some of the juiciest peaches in the country? Check out this article and try my famous peach crisp, which in the family we refer to as the Pocono Peach Pile.

Step 1: Purchase your peaches

I recommend stopping by Heckman Orchards in late summer. I usually buy a quarter-bushel of peaches for around $18, which is more than twice the amount of peaches you will need for this recipe.  However if you live in a peach-loving household like ours, no peach will be left behind.

Note: You can substitute canned peaches in this recipe. However, what makes this recipe special is using those farm-fresh peaches that can only be found in the Poconos!

Step 2: Prep your Ingredients

After pre-heating your oven to 350 degrees, slice your peaches and place them in your baking dish. What I love about this recipe is that it is QUICK and EASY! You can leave the skins on (don’t worry they disintegrate). Next, measure out your 6 ingredients and place them in a bowl or mixer.

Step 3: Mix your batter topping

Place all ingredients in your mixer or mix by hand. Once mixed, the consistency should look similar to the picture above. The texture should be similar to cookie dough. Your batter will come out best if you use cold butter.

Step 4: Assemble in dish and bake!

Place your batter on top of your peaches, then place in the oven at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes. After 30 minutes, I typically start checking on the dish. You’ll know it’s done when the peaches are bubbling and the crisp is a light golden brown.

Step 5: Enjoy your Pocono Peach Pile

Serve your Pocono Peach Pile immediately with vanilla ice cream. Peaches will be warm and gooey. YUM!
